My first sighting took place when I was a student at Hull University. I had recently been introduced to The Aetherius Society by my very close friend Dr John Holder, who was doing his PhD in biochemistry at the time, and I was wondering whether or not to buy some Aetherius Society books and tapes. I wanted them very much, but I had very little money, and I also needed some new gym shoes. After prevaricating for some time I decided to go without the gym shoes and get the books and tapes.
A few days later, John saw a UFO in the area, which he had seen from the postgraduates' common room window. He drove home and told me, and, in great excitement, the two of us drove off in our battered old Austin A55 to get a better look at the "cigar-shaped object".
It was quite low - lower than the moon or the stars - moving very slowly, brightly illuminated in the night sky. We parked the car, climbed over a tall fence and walked across the damp field to get a better look, but it became obscured by a large oak tree. I happened to glance down.
Under the oak tree was - a brand new pair of gym shoes.
There was nothing extraordinary about them. They were an ordinary brand. They hadn't been manufactured on the moon or anything like that. In fact I don't even believe that the UFO had anything to do with their being there. It was the synchronicity that struck me, nothing else. Of all things to find - and of all times to find them - gym shoes under an oak tree couldn't have been a better sign as far as I was concerned. Here was a literal example of the principle of "what you reject is laid at your feet" right before my eyes.
A small thing - yes. But for me a significant one.
